*STAR 1-5 Assessments are completed by the Skate Canada Professional Coach on regularly scheduled ice times.  $12 Fee per test is required for Skate Canada in addition to the Coach Lesson Fee.

When are Test Days?

Normally in December, March, April and July depending on the availability of evaluators, and may be during school hours, requiring a skater to miss school. Please refer to the Calendar for more details.

Who may test?

The coach determines whether the skater is ready to try a Skate Canada test. The skater’s name gets posted on a list 2 weeks prior to the test day. The rule is: once posted, the skater is obligated to take the test and to pay the Skate Canada Test Fees. Skate Canada will only accept medical reasons or withdrawal due to inclement weather for not taking a test and the Skate Canada Test Fee portion of the Test Fee will be refunded; all other reasons get marked as a retry with no refunds allowed.

Test Payment

Test Fees are payable to the school, and may be dropped off with the coaches’ prior to the test day, or may be paid online. Should it be necessary to pay on the day of the test, it is payable by cheque or exact cash. No change will be given. The Dance Partner Fee is a separate payment. This is between you and your coach, and is paid to the coach. Test Fees and the Dance Partner Fee need to be paid prior to the test being taken.

What happens on test day?

Most important, ARRIVE AT LEAST 45 MINUTES prior to the scheduled test time. The test day may run ahead and often do. Immediately at arrival, check the Test Schedule, and determine whether the test times are ahead, on-time or behind. Avoid panic on test days!

What to wear?

The skater must be dressed appropriately. The coach will advise the skater on what is expected. Gloves and a warm-up jacket are allowed during warm-up, make sure they can be easily removed for the actual test.

How can you help?

Test Days need some volunteers to bring snacks or food for the evaluators, to play the music for tests and to collect the test fees. You can sign-up now on the list provided or I’ll send an e-mail before the Test Day asking for volunteers.

This is a testing environment; ensure that all skaters are respected by family and friends who are watching in the stands. Stay clear of the door used by skaters, coaches and dance partners. Videos and cameras are allowed for your own children only, but please do not distract the skaters.
